工业纯碱即是工业碳酸钠，化学是Na2CO3，为其外观为白色的细小颗粒或结晶粉末。化学品的纯度多在（质量分数），又叫纯碱，但分类属于盐，不属于碱。

工业纯碱是重要的化工基本原料之一，应用于轻工日化、建材、化学工业、食品工业、冶金、纺织、石油、国防、医药等领域，用作制造其他化学品的原料、清洗剂、洗涤剂，也用于照相术和分析领域。其次是冶金、纺织、石油、国防、医药及其它工业。玻璃工业是纯碱的比较大消费部门，每吨玻璃消耗纯碱。在工业用纯碱中,主要是轻工、建材、化学工业,约占2/3：其次是冶金、纺织、石油、国防、医药及其他工业。

此外工业纯碱还可分为三种类别，每个类别都有其独特的适用对象：第一种为工业用重质碳酸钠，主要适用于制造显象玻璃壳、浮法玻璃、光学玻璃等；第二种为一般工业盐及天然碱为原料生产的工业碳纯碱，包括轻质碳酸钠和重质碳酸钠；第三种为硫酸钠型卤水盐为原料联碱法生产的工业纯碱，包括轻质碳酸钠和重质碳酸钠。

执行质量标准：

工业纯碱（轻质纯碱、重质纯碱）执行中华人民共和国颁发的《工业碳酸钠 gb210.1-2004ii》标准，产品质量均达到国际先进水平。食用纯碱执行中华人民共和国颁发的《食品添加剂碳酸钠 gb1886-1992》标准。
